Self-hosted or n8n Cloud?
n8n states that its hosted plans store data in the EU (Frankfurt), while a self-hosted instance stores data wherever you host it. If your workflows handle customer conversations or health enquiries, decide where the data should live under the PDPA, and who maintains updates and backups. Several Malaysian builds above self-host n8n next to a WhatsApp gateway.
n8n + WhatsApp: the costs to add
- Meta WhatsApp Business API fees if you use the official API: RM0.3467 per marketing message and RM0.0564 per utility message in Malaysia (details).
- AI model usage (for example OpenAI, Anthropic or Google), billed by the model provider.
- Payment gateway or courier API fees where the workflow takes payment or books delivery.
