How much does a WhatsApp chatbot cost in Malaysia?

A WhatsApp chatbot in Malaysia costs from RM0 on free tiers to RM999 a month on the RM-priced plans we checked on 18 Oct 2026, plus Meta’s per-message fees (RM0.3467 per marketing message, RM0.0564 per utility message). Done-for-you packages are listed at RM6,000 a year (ABC Sales AI) to RM4,800 a month (Mampu AI).

The three parts of the price
- Platform subscription: the chatbot or team-inbox software, usually monthly. This is the number on most pricing pages.
- Meta message fees: only if you use the official WhatsApp Business API. Meta charges per delivered message by category (table below). Some cheaper tools link a normal WhatsApp number instead, which avoids Meta fees but is not an official product.
- Setup and build: free self-serve setup on most plans, or a paid done-for-you package, expert hours or a custom build quoted per project.

Rates as published on ForwardChat’s pricing page and Lucco’s Malaysia rate guide, both citing Meta’s MYR rate card. Meta’s own pricing page says rates vary by market and category, and its wording we read still described service messages as free, so check your Meta Billing Hub for what applies to your account. Messages within 72 hours of a click-to-WhatsApp ad are not charged, per Meta.
DIY vs SaaS vs custom build

- SaaS chatbot platform: listed RM plans on the pages above run from RM37 (WasapBot Lite) to RM999 a month (ForwardChat Pro), with a free tier at Mampu AI. You set it up yourself or with the vendor’s onboarding.
- Done-for-you or custom: ABC Sales AI lists a Guided Launch at RM6,000 a year and Mampu AI a Managed Service at RM3,200–RM4,800 a month. Bespoke builds are quoted per project, so compare at least three quotes: post your project.

Can a grant pay for it?
Not right now. The Geran Digital PMKS MADANI paid 50% of an invoice up to RM5,000, but its official application form says applications closed on 6 Sep 2025. Budget 2027 announced a RM30 million MDEC fund to help 4,000 SMEs adopt AI, with no application details yet. Status and official links: AI grants in Malaysia.

Is there a free WhatsApp chatbot?
Yes, with limits. Mampu AI lists a Free Builder plan at RM0 for 50 monthly active contacts, Botpress has a free plan with 100 conversations, and most paid tools offer a 7-day trial. The WhatsApp Business app’s own auto-replies are free but are not an AI chatbot.
Is it a monthly fee or a one-time cost?
Most WhatsApp chatbot platforms charge monthly or yearly. One-time costs are usually setup or onboarding (for example Mimin lists a $399 onboarding add-on) or a custom build quoted per project.
Why are WhatsApp Business API messages charged?
Meta charges businesses on the official WhatsApp Business Platform per delivered message, by message category and the recipient’s country. Customers never pay to message you. Marketing messages cost the most (RM0.3467 each in Malaysia, per Meta’s MYR rate card as published by Malaysian providers).
Can I claim the digital grant for a chatbot?
Not at the moment. The Geran Digital PMKS MADANI application form says it closed on 6 Sep 2025, and the MDEC AI fund announced in Budget 2027 has no application details yet. See AI grants in Malaysia.
Do I need the WhatsApp Business API?
For an official, scalable chatbot with a team inbox, yes: tools like ForwardChat, respond.io and SleekFlow run on the official API. Tools that link a normal WhatsApp number are cheaper, but WasapBot says it is not an official WhatsApp product and itself warns that broadcasts can get a number banned.
